Medicare Supplement Insurance: What Is Plan F?

by Justin Metz

Health care and out-of-pocket costs for Medicare participants are on the rise. If you’re on a fixed income, it can be especially difficult — and stressful — to manage the expenses associated with your care.

If this sounds familiar, a Medicare Supplement insurance plan may be the answer.

Medicare Supplement plans, sometimes called “Medigap,” are private insurance policies that can help pay for the health care costs that Medicare doesn’t cover. There are a number of different Medicare Supplement plans to choose from. But if you’re looking to eliminate a significant portion of your out-of-pocket costs, you’ll probably want to consider Plan F.

What is Plan F?

Medicare Parts A and B provide insurance coverage for health-related expenses, but they don’t cover all of the health care costs you may have. While all Medicare Supplement plans help offset those costs, Plan F offers the most comprehensive coverage.

With Plan F, you won’t incur any out-of-pocket costs for medical expenses covered by your Medicare Supplement insurance. You’ll pay a higher monthly premium, but you’ll also get peace of mind knowing that there won’t be any surprise bills if you require medical treatment.

What does Plan F cover?
If you choose Medicare Supplement Plan F from Erie Family Life, you won’t incur any out-of-pocket costs for expenses such as:

  • Part A deductible
  • Part A hospital copayments
  • Part B deductible
  • Part B copayments
  • Part B excess physician charges
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Foreign emergency care

Medicare Supplement Plan F is a great option for anyone who wants to eliminate the out-of-pocket expenses associated with their care. Instead of paying copays and deductibles, you’ll pay a monthly premium for your Medicare Supplement plan. And we’ll take care of the rest.

Am I eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan?
If you are age 65 or over and enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B, you can apply for a Medicare Supplement plan policy. Coverage is guaranteed if you enroll in the first six months of Medicare Part B eligibility, and is guaranteed to renew each year.
